The #EnvironmentBill returning would be the best end to #RecycleWeek.

It can bring in new laws to clean up our environment, from preventing plastic pollution & #foodwaste to banning single-use items (👀 this famous pic from Justin Hofman @NHM_WPY)

Short thread 👇
First and foremost, recycling reform is needed.

The latest @WhichUK investigation finds that only a third (34%) of the UK's best-selling food and drink brands have packaging that is fully recyclable in household collections.

New laws proposed in #EnvironmentBill will help address this by:

👀Ensuring producers are responsible for the packaging they produce
🍌Separating collection for #FoodWaste (which still makes up 1/3 of what people throw in normal bin)
🚫Banning or restricting exports of waste
Important quote:

🗨️"This nation [should not] be offshoring its waste for others to deal with.”

From @michaelgove when he introduced the Resources and Waste Strategy in December 2018.
Gov has promised to match or exceed what the EU does on resources, but it's at risk of falling behind & #COVID19 is further exacerbating this (see @GreenerUK_ latest risk tracker: https://bit.ly/3iYnBOQ )

For #RecycleWeek, it is crucial the #EnvironmentBill returns shortly 🤞♻️
