Postcard 7 for #literaryjianghu has reached its destination. This one is about Xi'an/Chang'an, which I have already written a bit on for the project. https://twitter.com/aklee_writes/status/1309007649535557632
the Tang legend that I translated, "The Woman in the Carriage," is set in the city http://yilinwang.com/the-woman-in-the-carriage/
While in Xi'an I went to Huaqing Palace and watched a stage play depicting the tragic love story of Concubine Yang and the emperor. It was a really intense production with acrobats, fancy costuming and lighting, and staged explosives (for the battle scenes).
I also took a walk around Dayan (Giant Goose) Pagoda, which is a part of a temple that was affiliated with the monk Xuanzang, a key character from Journey to the West.
See this thread here for more on Chang'an :) I have many notes and photos from this city because there are so many museums to visit, but I'll save those for another time. https://twitter.com/yilinwriter/status/1290125547138244608
