thinking about a humble blue tumbler today. it was given to Kao for him to make clear to others that he’s already taken. it’s always present when Kao teaches at the cafĂ©, but the ‘PeteKao’ is covered up by the tumbler cover, symbolic of Kao still being in the closet (1/4)
but remaining committed to the relationship. when Non returns the tumbler to Kao without the cover, the rs is ruthlessly exposed by Non — almost as a taunt to Pete that he knows about their relationship since N has persistently asked about PeteKao’s status (2/4)
it aggravates the situation for Pete because the tumbler — a symbol of his love for Kao — ended up with Non. he also found out then that Kao had lied to him. when he throws the tumbler out of anger and scratches are left on it, it also symbolises damage done to the rs (3/4)
later on when the rs is made known, Kao doesn’t use the tumbler cover anymore and expresses that he wants to keep the scratches. methinks it’s also a reminder of what had happened and that where PK are at now, it didn’t come easy. and so, all the more it’s worth cherishing. (4/4)
