comfort characters + self care: a tutorial thread on using comfort characters to better take care of yourself

i find that having reminders from my fav/comfort characters really helps me! i made a spread in my journal about it (below), but i wondered if i could do more, so i did! now i'm sharing it to tell yall about my method :> https://twitter.com/sonokeiji_/status/1308613715281944576?s=20
what i use:
- the app 'Aloe Bud' (iOS)
- the custom reminders expansion ($5.49CAD) – i have the full version of the app, but you'll only need this expansion
- my comfort characters :>
- a little creativity

note: i am not affiliated with aloe bud, i just really like the app.
if you cannot get aloe bud/the expansion, i'm sure you can use any reminders app you have on your device. i use aloe bud because i like the cute interfacing

STEP 1: choosing your reminders
aloe bud has lots of different reminders that you can set. for the sake of this tutorial, let's go with hydrate + pick the cactus icon

i'll be choosing the 'check in' option (tap the button when the activity is complete), but you can also choose 'reflection' (write a short response to the activity)
STEP 2: scheduling your reminders
you'll be brought to the activity card where you can choose a reminder and when you want to receive notifs for it. start with your notif schedule – pick what works for you. i'll set one everyday every 4 hours, from 8am-8pm.

STEP 3: writing your reminders
choose a character and add a small message from them, and turn off all other reminder options! all of my reminders use haikyuu!! characters, so i'll use oikawa. here's some other examples of reminders i have set.

i try to write something i imagine them saying, but it's not necessary!!

STEP 4: using your reminders
when you get a notification, it'll look like this! it reminds me of text messages, so it feels really personal
when you want to check-in/have finished the task, just hit check in.
