I think it's a mistake to conflate order and democratic norms. In times of crisis, maintaining or restoring order sometimes means subverting democratic norms. People often choose order, even when it's bad.
The threat of chaos on Election Day will prompt a kneejerk reaction from a lot of people to have law enforcement defending polling places. But that's already part of Trump's plan to intimidate voters.
For decades the GOP was barred from sending off-duty cops to patrol polling places on election day for obvious fucking reasons, but the consent decree barring that went away two yrs ago and Trump has been clear the GOP will be availing themselves of this option to a great extent.
Their goal is to make order the enemy of democracy, and they have the ability to do that. So we have to be ready to resist on those terms.
It's important to understand that order vs democracy is how they plan to break people.
