Since current events are what they are and they never seem to cease and mental health is always a relevant topic I want to share what I do to make my life at least a little better/easier
The biggest thing I have personally done for myself is taking advantage of a relative high moment and actually sitting down and taking the time to think about the way my home is set up and how that relates to how I’m feeling/my motivation to do upkeep
Dishes in particular have ALWAYS been difficult for me to tackle especially on week days so I figured out why (in my case I don’t do them so long I get overwhelmed and end up feeling terrible about myself) and then how to fix it
for me that meant figuring out how many dishes I go through in the span of 2-3 days and then donating anything extra. If I don’t have a lot of dishes unwashed dishes can’t get out of control. For other people this might not work though
I’ve also seen people give the advice to just use disposable plates/silverware if you’re in a particularly bad spot
The point is to make your life easier not to try to copy what works for someone else
So dishes are one thing but I also tried to do that with everything else I have a hard time with physically and mentally
Then I keep a list of chores divided into daily/weekly/monthly categories and try to stick to a routine or backup routine on the weekends and then keep track of it into the most simplified version of a bullet journal I could make so even if I don’t remember what I did I can look
This thread is getting really long but given the current climate and how hyper aware everyone is of everything going on I think it’s an important reminder to take a step back from everything every once in a while
I know not everyone has the privilege to ignore or tune out current issues and that’s not what I mean by that. What I mean is set aside some time to do something you enjoy even if it’s just putting a little extra effort into a meal.
Play with your pets! Take a bath! Go for a walk! Draw! Read! Write! See a friend from an appropriate distance!
Even an hour away from negativity can be helpful
I guess the point is that nobody can or should care about every issue in the world at all times
Obviously keep yourself informed and help where you can but take some time for yourself too
