there has never been a better time to read literally any other book? https://twitter.com/PostOpinions/status/1309244487856795649
i'm genuinely like staggered by this. separating art from the artist is one thing — and kind of a hard one to swallow given the new novel that AR posits is not really transphobic (how would she know?) — but the "now more than ever" framing is absolutely bonkers
now more than ever, be reminded that someone can appear to grasp the terrible struggle between good and evil... and also deny your personhood in a heartbeat
there's a real "read the room" problem here (cf. @lpbradley "...in this climate?") but also a total inability to grasp with the moral question that HP fans/readers are faced with in light of JKR's transphobia.
and pardon me but what the fuck
"find out where [transphobia] comes from and face the nature of its power"? what?

HP as a model for battling evil?? WHAT?? it is a fantasy story where, in the end, having the best magic wand saves the day??
this purports to be about art but then why are we using the words "strategic" and "effective" about her writing?
this pisses me off because the very last thing that JKR needs is
- more attention
- more money
- for HP to be even more central to the culture

she should be fucking deplatformed, dude. that's what you do to bigots.
AR is suggesting we read Troubled Blood before judging it as transphobic. She read it and it didn't seem transphobic to her. (BIG THUMBS UP "OK" TO THE CAMERA.) and then continues we can prove JKR is better than her transphobic remarks by judging the humanity of her art.
but instead of working very hard to redeem her (or, more likely, our own guilty conscience for still being attached to fucking fantasy books for children as political allegory) WHAT IF we just read some other books by authors who weren't antitrans or perhaps even trans themselves
i'm sorry maybe i should try to rephrase this in a way that makes JKR into Voldemort and Twitter as the Ministry of Magic and "cancel culture" as Hogwarts?????????????? bc i know this is all a lot to follow

I'M DONE NOW. THANKS
