After visiting his father many times, Daisuke notices his improvement overtime: he can eat and drink without assitance, can sustain a decent coversation, can look at people without his usual dazed look. Daisuke, thrilled, invites Haru to visit Shigemaru with him one day. +
Months of tedious research meant Haru knew many things about the man, and yet he has never met him face to face. It& #39;s a quiet, sunny evening when Daisuke slides the door to his father& #39;s room open. "Good evening, Father. I& #39;ve brought a visitor with me," he announces with a rare+
Fondness in his tone. Shigemaru turns his gaze away from the window and to Haru. "Good evening, dear. May I know your name?"

"Um, I& #39;m...Katou Haru, sir," Haru bows awkwardly. Shigemaru& #39;s eyes widen, "Ah! The man Daisuke doesn& #39;t stop talking about, it& #39;s nice to finally meet you."
Haru briefly glances at Daisuke, and he& #39;s not surprised to find him as red as Haru probably is. Daisuke clears his throat, "do you wish to go outside, Father?"

Shigemaru contemplates the offer before shaking his head, "I& #39;d rather stay here for now. Come here, sit."
So they do. Daisuke pulls a chair from the corner of the room and offers it to Haru. It& #39;s... an unusual gesture, Haru offers him a soft smile and Daisuke returns it with a scowl. Shigemaru, however, isnt pleased, "no, no. Come sit on the bed with me."

"Father, you need to rest!"
Shigemaru doesn& #39;t say a word, so they resign and sit on opposite ends of the bed, facing Daisuke& #39;s father. Shigemaru doesn& #39;t miss a beat, he takes their hand and holds them firmly, a content sigh escaping his throa. Haru looks at his partner and finds him concentrated instead of+
The confusion he anticipated seeing on his face.

"Haru-san," Shigemaru starts and Haru hurriedly turns his eyes back on the father. "Y...Yes?"

There& #39;s silence for a while before Shigemaru smiles, "thank you, for being there for my son. And for saving the Kambe family."+
"Wh...There& #39;s no need to thank me, sir! It was my duty!" Haru fumbles with his words, the last thing he expected to hear from him were words of gratitude. He& #39;s quite embarassed, but judging by Daisuke& #39;s proud smile, the feeling is not mutual.

Shigemaru chuckles, "you know..."
"When I was Daisuke& #39;s age, my sight was narrow. I didn& #39;t notice anything that went past my researches. Concepts like friends, family. Love. All too strange and unimportant.

"I& #39;ve always believed in that mindset, until I& #39;ve met Daisuke& #39;s mother."
Daisuke flinches, but he listens.
Shigemaru strokes their knuckles gently, "it& #39;s like ascending to a higher realms, that young feeling of love. Clumsy, new, unusual but never unpleasant. To this day, I& #39;ve never regretted falling in love with Sayuri."

"Why are you telling us this?" Daisuke asks, almost shyly.+
The father smiles and stays quiet, Haru thinks he wouldn& #39;t reply with how long he& #39;s been silent for. Suddenly, with weak, feable arms, Shigemaru pulls them into a tight embrace. Haru holds his breath while Daisuke completely sinks in his father& #39;s affection.+
"I& #39;m telling you that love can, and does change people. Change is scary, but when it& #39;s for the better, you start realizing that it& #39;s a force you can wield to move forward, rather than be shackled by loneliness and delusions.
"You& #39;re my son, Daisuke. Only a parent can tell when+
their child changes in any wau, subtle or not."

Daisuke pulls away slightly, but Shigemaru continues, "you& #39;ve grown so much since then, Daisuke. Now only a spec of what you used to be. You& #39;re an adult now, proud and high like your mother would& #39;ve wanted you to be."+
"But that pride, the sparkles of joy in your eyes, they didn& #39;t light up by themselves. Right, Haru-kun?"

"Eh?" Haru answers rather dumbly, he didn& #39;t think he& #39;d be addressed. Daisuke shakes his head and coughs, "you must be tired, Father. You& #39;re speaking nonesense."+
Shigemaru chuckles, "maybe I am." His gaze turns to Haru, and to his surprise, the father bows to him. "Please continue taking care of our Daisuke."

Haru& #39;s answer is firm in its resolve when he nods, "I will do my best, sir." +
"Oh, please, just call me Father. You& #39;re family now, aren& #39;t you?"

The young couple fumes in embarassement once again. Haru looks away when Daisuke squeezes his hand softly.

"As you wish...F...Father..."

Shigemaru smiles. "Welcome to the family."
