From Germany it's weird to see the US falling apart like that. Because
a) one could have read about these mechanisms in a history book
b) it's kinda far away to make it less directly dangerous
c) it will affect us here massively
And my US timeline keeps talking about increasingly batshit ideas as the new normal. Like, I would have never believed that "Will the current president leave the White House if he loses the election?" was going to be a debate.
(Yeah yeah, US elections are super weird and not about who got the most votes yadda yadda but you know what I mean)
Remember when as Trump took office liberals kept saying "This is not normal" to his lies and abuses of power. Now his MO has become the new normal. People are scared and almost traumatized after years of this abuse but it's accepted as how things are (currently).
But what's weirdest to me is how little the liberals learned. It's still all about showing Trump lied (did he open his mouth? That's how you know he lied) or asking Republicans to "play fair" (they don't want to play at all, they want to win).
It's still this belief that there is some entity that will be a referee. Like if you just show that Trump lied a few times more he will be disqualified. And I have a hard time to even imagine who that is supposed to be? Fucking Optimus Prime?
"We need someone to unite this country."

Are you sure about that? How do you want to unite with people who hunt black people in the fucking streets?
It just. I don't get it.

And I think this weird feeling is the knowledge that Germany is potentially about 10 years behind this.
