i started in games journalism at age 38 https://twitter.com/Randwiches/status/1309250458536554502
social media has exacerbated feelings of inadequacy, especially when you hear about tiktok stars landing acting roles etc. it obscures the fact that the vast majority of people struggle to achieve their goals, or have to adjust them as life happens.
i started because i wanted to be a music journalist! but all the music journalists/critics at every single paper loves their job and refuses to quit, leave or die. so i had to adjust. i take all the training i had from music criticism and apply it to games.
i gave up on my career at age 32. i was absolutely convinced that it was over for me and my time had passed. i immediately took a job i had zero passion for but with good benefits.

but once i smelled an opportunity, i still took it. i'm still not dead, so why give up now?
so yeah I totally get feeling like your time has passed. Like a fresh heartbreak, it’s hard to see a future, especially if certain lanes weren’t immediately available to you early.

we’re all victims of circumstance. But we don’t have to be victims to it.
