1. “Nothing is normal right now” is what I’ve just heard on BBC News regarding prospect of mass unemployment and Covid-19.
Nothing has been “normal” for a very, very long time. This is why the pandemic is exacerbating deepening inequity - which is racialised and gendered.
2. This is the context and the backdrop behind this pandemic and IS the story as much as Covid is. The two are linked.

A decade+ of austerity has devastated people, destroyed communities, and continues to do so. The UK has record numbers of people rough sleeping and homeless.
3. Record numbers of people surviving on food banks and depending on food charities to sustain themselves and their families.

Public sector workers continue to struggle with ongoing pay freezes.

The NHS has been underfunded and is being privatised through the back door.
4. ALL of this and more has been going on for years and years and now we have another crisis, and that’s before we even get to Brexit. We need to get organised in our neighbourhoods and communities, support our family, neighbours, friends and do it unapologetically and vocally.
5. We need to join and support community groups, activists and organisers doing the same, councillors and others. We also need to not get burnt out and ensure we take care of ourselves and each other. We need to step up being active in our solidarity.
