New investigation from @NYDNSports (and a thread).
MLB’s COVID-19 health and safety manual said the league would test essential workers “as a public service” in every big league city.
The season’s almost over and only one team has followed the protocol. https://trib.al/vzf8drN
Back in August, @NYDailyNews reached out to all 30 teams, and only the Red Sox have a public health testing plan consistent with the protocol. The Mets declined comment and the Yankees didn’t respond to NYDN’s repeated requests on the status of the program.
Some MLB teams that responded suggested I go the the league for more information on the status of its testing initiative. MLB then told NYDN that league participation in this portion of the health manual was optional. So like Philip J. Fry…I squinted.

And just in case you were wondering “where were local government health officials in all this?” I had the same question! And even worse, so did they!

Nothing about local health non involvement should remotely surprise anyone paying attention. Back in June, NYDN found they were frequently shut out of MLB’s coronavirus health protocol creation. https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/ny-mlb-coronavrius-public-health-20200607-ammbxv426rf6jkn63snmlb6tei-story.html https://twitter.com/_beewilly/status/1269654467273797633
