RATCHED: No scrubs.The moral lines of the title nurse are frustratingly opaque and often illegible, especially if you have CUCKOO’S NEST in sight. The show’s camping, garish aesthetic, and pale imitation of Sirk feel like a, ahem, lobotomized Todd Haynes, which is generous. C-

It’s not the *worst* Ryan Murphy thing I’ve ever seen, but never once was the question “why am i watching this?” ever answered. Its existence is totally befuddling to me.

For a character that is inseparable from concepts of institutional power, the show itself has a hazy, at best, understanding of how these various institutions function, and how these characters, Mildred especially, operate within them.

Also the “hurt people hurt people” stuff that’s supposed to be the crux of this show is so po-faced and also deeply incoherent.

Sophie Okonedo is really great though!
