(1/6) While trying to create robust throwing athletes we explore many different training methods and have worked on twists of @Caldietz Triphasic Peaking Method and have had a lot of success with it. Listed will be some different ideas @RandySullivanPT, @fbr_wes and I have used.
(2/6) A simple starting point. We introduce the athlete to the task with the arm extended out in between the band. After facing the band they then turn towards the side. This simple change allows for the athlete to target and find co-contractions in different muscles.
(3/6) As you can tell Wes is set up where he would be in the deceleration portion of his throw. Hip lock at toe off with an extended angle as if he was about to release a baseball. With minimal body positional change we can attack that individual athletes needs.
(4/6) This is a more advanced version we use with particular athletes. This gives them not only an acceleration/deceleration factor but also a small iso hold in between at certain points. The rebounding effect heightens the co-contraction as the band continues to move.
(5/6) All exercises are done around the 5-10 second mark depending on the particular athlete. They are ramped up to this point with a solid foundation before being exposed to this type of training.
(6/6) In SAVAGE training finding co-contractions is a major part of what we do. Having the luxury of changing the athletes body placement to activate the muscles we want has been a game changer. These exercises play a big role in advanced post arm care routines as well as prehab.
