Okay I actually have some more to say about queer baiting that doesnât necessarily have to do with the video I just think it could be said https://twitter.com/witch_lad/status/1309175760763187200
Itâs important to how queer people are actually really good at spotting queer characters even under censorship - for example sapphics have been saying Velma was a lesbian for literal decades, and recently the creator confirmed that she was in fact lesbian
Similarly to Wendy from gravity falls - therefor weâre so used to picking up on these âqueer codingâ signs because of censorship that when we come across these signs in other contexts (like non censored shows) we instantly recognize it as queer rep/queer romance
So thats proof weâre not just âmaking it upâbecause often the traits we point to in characters that are later confirmed to be queer- are the same traits we point out in other characters that are clearly queerbaited the difference is one is a cash grab the other was censorship
Also how come straight characters are allowed to have het crushes/romances without it being explicitly stated? Enola Holmes is a perfect example of this especially when compared to BBC Sherlock (I know the irony)
Enola and Tewkesbury are love interests, this is widely accepted they clearly have a crush on eachother. But how do we know this? They never admit these feelings, the narrative tells us this by putting them in close quarters, giving them soft tender moments
(Such as kissing eachothers hand), and having another character remark that they like eachother. But Sherlock and John arenât in love surly. Yes theyâre often put in close quarters and have soft tender moments with eachother, and many character comment that they like
Eachother.... hmmmmmm - how come one is clearly a romance even tho they donât kiss, get together by the end of the movie, or explicitly state they like eachother romantically? Thatâs called a
