What I find so dastardly about all of this is that it is not actually in the interest of the president to "make america great again." Donald Trump needs chaos and societal despair to have a chance of winning. If people were doing wonderfully, they wouldn't vote for trump.

And by wonderfully, no I don't mean merely "materially" wonderfully. Plenty of well-off people voted for trump but many of them lived in neighborhoods that were poor, where median incomes were around 20K and which had increased deaths of despair, opioid addiction, etc.
