ME: The Zoomers will save us

ZOOMERS:
Troubling that this is goals for me in 2020
One thing I love about CHILDREN OF MEN is its probably accurate prediction that kidnappings will become so common in the former "first world" that Londoners in suits on their way to work don't bat an eye when Theo gets nicked

Sorry this is going to be a CHILDREN OF MEN shitposting account from now on
Hopping in the independent minyan's zoom on Yom Kippur
#tbt to the time @jackbern23 and his cousin and I walked by here in 2011 and totally marked out, demanding that we get a better look because it's from this scene of CHILDREN OF MEN, and they both were like "why on earth do you want to do a tourist trip based on CHILDREN OF MEN"

Cuarón and I debated the scene from CHILDREN OF MEN that we all think about the most these days, the one where Nigel tells Theo, "I just don't think about it" — I maintain that Nigel's stance is morally ambiguous, not outright evil! https://www.vulture.com/2017/01/alfonso-cuaron-children-of-men-transcript.html
I've always loved how Cuarón and Sexton were like "what's the shittiest thing about England" and accurately pointed out that dog-racing is a strong contender
I contend that CHILDREN OF MEN mastered the art of the DVD extra with this short film where Cuarón just interviews a bunch of people about how the world is ending, most notably this lovable rascal:
Possibly my favorite shot in CHILDREN OF MEN is this one, of the policemen that Luke murders, which is the only — or at least one of the only — shot in the entire film that strays from Theo's general POV

One of the many things I adore about CHILDREN OF MEN is the fact that Theo is such a wimp, prone to tears and too soft for the world he's been dealt
Clive's astonishment, which he conveys as though he's a man who long ago forgot what it was like to be pleasantly surprised, followed by Chiwetel's delivery of the retort ... *milkman's kiss*
Russia, if you're listening, please give me a book deal to write a short monograph where I integrate the reams of interviews that I did for my CHILDREN OF MEN feature but didn't have room to incorporate alongside expanded analysis from myself and others: https://www.vulture.com/2016/12/children-of-men-alfonso-cuaron-c-v-r.html
I will settle for a @Criterion booklet essay
I absolutely love pointing out to Americans that Michael Caine is a deranged Tory https://www.vulture.com/2017/01/alfonso-cuaron-children-of-men-transcript.html
That said, I can't stay mad at him because I cry every time I watch this goddamn scene
Here he comes, the absolute unit, the god Peter Mullan
Among the many virtues of CHILDREN OF MEN is its extremely high level of ACAB vibes
This fuckin' scene, man
Arabic-fluent friends: what do these written phrases from CHILDREN OF MEN's mise-en-scene mean, perchance?
I've always loved the unnamed ex-Soviet grandma's shelf of photos and general gestalt
Charlie Hunnam in CHILDREN OF MEN reminding us all that white men in dreadlocks will very likely murder you
And now we come to the famed 379-second take in the refugee camp, which features an iconic blood splatter on the lens. The blood was an accident at the worst possible time for an accident — it's quite the story, actually! https://www.vulture.com/2016/12/children-of-men-alfonso-cuaron-c-v-r.html
2020 vibe check
And that, folks, is what we in the culture industry call "a fucking MOVIE"
I'll leave you with a closing benediction from Cuarón, one which I don't know precisely how to interpret in 2020: https://www.vulture.com/2016/12/children-of-men-alfonso-cuaron-c-v-r.html
