If there is anyone who follows me who isn't registered to vote, I urge you to get on that, like today.
It's easy and painless and casting a ballot feels so good.
Sometimes there are things on the ballot you're confused about, and that's okay! I try to stay pretty engaged and there's still moments where it's like 'who the fuck am I supposed to vote for I don't even understand what this job is'
But voting is the core of democracy. You may not always get the candidate you want (this year is a great example of that)
Barack Obama once said that democracy isn't a swift speed boat, it's more like a large ocean liner. You can't just make sharp turns. It moves slowly, but if the captain's can move the boat in the right direction, you might get there
I'm on the record that I think Biden sucks and is not a step forward, but he's not a tyrant at least
To me the most important thing is to keep up with your hyper local politics. These are the people who are in charge of your community and may move up to the national level with your support
It's stressful and can often be boring and politics fucking suck. But if you're not aware and voting and advocating, you have no say.
I used to have an anarchist friend who refused to vote or participate in any meaningful activities who would just bitch about the gov all the time, and it's like you could just do something instead
It ain't about the perfect candidate, it's pushing the needle into the right direction. That's how the republicans have been so successful, pushing things for decades to get to this point
