Michael Jackson: His Music Videos & What Ideas For Fiction They Spark In My Mind {A THREAD}

There are three main reasons for this thread:
1. Deriving real good ideas for future works and references
2. Entertainment purposes
3. Exploration of Michael's videos in different ways

This will be a purely personal thread reflecting my thoughts and opinions.

So let's start.
1. Thriller
The Thriller video is itself a very abstract story. But I'm not too fond of supernatural elements in stories. My favorite part of the video is the intro where MJ and Ola Ray are walking together.

These two are my OTP, so I'm inclined towards romance (excluding the werewolf part). Also, a young black couple somewhere in the '50s could make for a possible nice historical background. Anyways, these two would be the main focus and they're very cute and innocent together.

2. Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough + Rock With You + She's Out Of My Life

You might wonder why I'm meshing these three together but there are reasons behind this: these three are literally music videos, not short films. All from the same album, two have the same carefree disco...

...vibe, whilst She's Out Of My Life is the melancholy regretful heartbreak song. This could be a story that starts with the heartbreak and then shows a flashback to the good times and events leading up to the break up. Also, it has to be set in the late '70s.

3. Say Say Say

This is a really fun and entertaining video. It's presumably set in the late 1930s so I prefer to stick to the timeline. I always imagine this being an Enid Blyton type story, like Famous Five Go On A Hike vibes.

A vaudeville group of con artists travel across the American country; the story involves their personal lives, thoughts and struggles and how they work and stay together. It doesn't have to have a definitive conclusion because like the characters adventures, the story goes on.

4. Bad

This one immediately takes my mind to suburban Brooklyn, NYC in 1986, around Christmas time. It's already a solid story; it just needs a bit tweaking, because this one will not culminate in a song-dance sequence! It's just Darryl's various experiences right from his...

...school experiences (which deserve to be explored more) along with his dilemmas with his old friends. This one might actually make a good short series or something: a really short collection of his experiences, individual and group. It has a lot of potential, even though the...

...ending is something which needs to be thought about. It will not be negative though, because Darryl is just too sweet of a character.

5. Smooth Criminal

This is obviously about the classic '20s style gangster and mafia groups. It'd have to be an inconclusive account, a simple fiction piece on what the underworld and crime is like. Probably would involve sensitive issues like corruption, sex, alcohol, etc.

6. Remember The Time

RTT makes me want to write something based in Cairo, Egypt sometime in the late 20th century; a romance. Ideas are unclear right now, but it'd be between two people who come from unhappy and unsatisfied lives. Could be interracial, but I'm again inclined...

...to make it about two young individuals, both natives, with a little bit similarity to Disney's Aladdin. It's just my imagination and the angle in which my mind inclines, so it can lead to something that isn't even directly connected with the video. The video is only a prompt.

I'd say I'll end this thread here because the other ones aren't exactly giving me any vibes in particular. I didn't include Billie Jean or Beat It because these already have definitive stories and I can't think beyond those for anything. But these 6 ideas are pretty good.
