Dev team of a popular Python library published a paper with 26 authors, all male. Women tasked with defending that fact by saying they are valued contributors and the team is working hard on diversity. But ... not valued enough to be on the paper.

Now they're blocking women https://twitter.com/drjulie_b/status/1309169175345192964
I can't help but wonder why they think this sort of public acting out will help with diversity? If no woman rose to the level of authorship on the paper, there is a problem somewhere in the pipeline, and I feel like we're all spotting it in real time.
And I don't mean to discount very real frustrations parts of the team may feel. I've been involved in diversity initiatives where not all the actions can be revealed at the time, or the work is quiet and in the background for a long while. But this behavior does not suggest that.
If anyone out there is looking to make a mentored first contribution to an open source project, hit me up, by the way. I have a bunch of little phylogeny projects I just don't have time for and I'd be happy to help underrepresented scientists make a first OSS contribution
