My parents had a concrete step replaced in their garden last week. When they took up the old one, underneath they found a small metal box with an envelope addressed to me inside.

My mother posted it to me. It’s a letter I wrote when I was 8. I can’t remember writing it but I recall putting the box in the ground and I recognise the drawing of Batman I did on it. The envelope says “do not open until 2000”.

I opened the envelope, unfolded the paper and read the one sentence I had written to future me... “Fuck you old man.”

Fuck me indeed.
