PSA to PIs/Mentors: check on your Black trainees/colleagues and make sure you& #39;re accommodating of the lived experiences they have out of the lab. This week, like many this year, has been particularly difficult and work/lab productivity may not be at the forefront of their mind.
To any of my Black friends, if you ever need to chat or vent or just take your mind off things, my DMs are open and I& #39;m happy to listen and help in any way I can https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="♥️" title="Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Herz">
Also if they don& #39;t want to talk, don& #39;t push it!

If they do, reminder to listen and learn, hear what they& #39;re going through and be respectful of anything that& #39;s discussed or any emotions expressed.

Only offer advice if it& #39;s solicited.

Don& #39;t downplay any emotions/experiences.
These subjects are hard to talk about and approach, but that doesn& #39;t mean you shouldn& #39;t check in with people!

Some may not want to talk about it, but there& #39;s no harm in showing that they have someone in their corner to support them as needed. It& #39;s part of being a good mentor!
