Last night was the first Executive Committee meeting for the Queens Democratic Party. Our eight District Leaders proudly attended the Zoom meeting. They finally got a firsthand inside look at the “Queens Machine.” Here’s a fact checker thread on what they uncovered.

Q: When is the first Queens County Committee meeting?
A: It was announced for next week: Thurs. October 1st at 6:30pm on Zoom. This date has been up in the air for weeks! By law, they had until Oct. 6th for all 2,000+ members to meet, so it’s about time we hear about it.

A: No. A very different scenario played out in which the meeting’s “required” Robert’s Rules of Order were completely ignored.

A: After the Pledge of Allegiance and the roll call, Chairman Meeks recognized @CMKoslowitz to nominate him for re-election.

Q: Who seconds the nomination? Was there a vote?
A: After the nomination is supported by John Albert & @aridia_espinal, there is no vote. All it took was three people to nominate. There is absolutely no record of how each District Leader voted bc the vote never happened.

Q: How were the other leadership positions on the Committee filled?
A: The candidates for the other Committee positions were nominated by Executive Secretary Michael Reich and then affirmed by Meeks. None of the District Leaders actually voted - again, no record of votes.

Q: Will County Committee appointments be filled by the new District Leaders?
A: It can never be easy, can it?
First, District Leader Melissa Bieri asks about the vacancies in her district, AD37B. Executive Secretary Michael Reich doesn’t give a clear yes or no.

A: DL’s @EmiliaDecaudin & @jesselaymon from AD37A ask about their list of names. Again, no clear response. All 4 DL positions in AD37 were won by New Reformers, so there should be no issue here right!?

A: Deadline is October 1. District Leader @derekevers shares that many DL’s were unaware they had to fill seats and that they have to do it in a week. Some need to fill 80+ seats!

Q: How do District Leaders get to work with their local democratic club?
A: First, there needs to be communication. AD37B District Leaders Melissa Bieri & @derekevers have not had much luck with their club, which seems to resist welcoming & communicating with the new DLs.

A: A motion to adjourn was made. District Leader @EmiliaDecaudin seconded the motion. A voice vote to adjourn was made - funny how that works, right? The only voice vote made from members the entire night was to end the meeting. Wow.
