Till 70s-80s a Bollywood hero was an honest man who loved his family, did all right things, respected his elders, protected women, helped poor and had all good qualities.
He would win the heart of the heroine by his good deeds and good qualities. (1)

The hero in those Hindi movies went to a temple, was God fearing, projected how an ideal man should be. They represented goodness & truth which always won in the end.
The people particularly the young boys who watched those movies wanted to be like him (2)

The heroine was an ideal woman who had values which would keep the family together, who stood with the hero in all his struggles and was his strength. Mostly only the vamps and villains were shown indulging in vices. (3)

Now compare those films with the kind of movies being made today.
Heroes are mostly gangsters, underworld dons, terr orists, goons who are never shown doing any work to earn their living. They mostly don't believe in the institution of marriage. (4)

Heroes these days have multiple relationships, bigamy, extramarital affairs and live-in relationships.
They no more go to a temple. When in trouble they go to a Mazaar or Durgah. Pray to Allah and Maula.
All negative traits are romanticized.

Why and how did this degradation happen? Whatever they showed in movies, they did in real life too.
It is said that movies are a mirror of society, but it is a fact that society particularly the youth emulates movies. (6)

These druggies, leading absolutely immoral lives can never be, should never be the heroes for our kids. As parents we must guide and tell them of their reality.
They are not our icons!
