A thread looking at the types of goals Edouard Mendy conceded in 2019-20.

There's a lot to like and some issues surrounding his game. The issues he has are fixable, however.
Near post finishes - This is Mendy's biggest weakness. While Mendy is very good at dealing with far post shots, near post shots can sometimes catch him by surprise.

This is a bit tricky to fix and he'll never be elite at this aspect, but he can improve by a reasonable margin.
Tap-ins - There is not a lot a GK can do in these scenarios.

Mendy is excellent at covering ground, mainly because he's pretty fast for his size and positions himself well, but there are scenarios where he can do nothing.
Penalties - It is easier to score penalties than save them and it no surprise that Mendy concedes more penalties than he saves.

He has made a few good saves from penalties but don't expect him to be as good as Diego Alves or Caballero.
Goals through the body - This is a real issue surrounding Mendy's game. There are a few occasions where he dives more than required, allowing the ball to hit his arms and go through him.

Despite very tall, he's not as vulnerable around his legs as Courtois or Pope (for example).
Rebounds - It will be obvious to most watchers that Mendy has a pretty unorthodox saving technique, resulting in a lot of rebounds.

He has improved a fair bit in this regard but there is still work to be done. He's more vulnerable to bad parries from set pieces than open play.
One on ones - Mendy knows how to use his speed and size and makes himself big when attackers bear down on goal. He is very proactive in this sense. This is one of his stronger aspects.
Mendy's save map - indicating the locations of shots he has stopped and conceded - provides a different perspective of his shot-stopping tendencies.

He does not have Oblak-like reflexes from close range but he saves slightly more than you'd expect him to.
A look at this video shows how his shot-stopping technique has become more secure as the 2019-20 season progressed. The same can be said for his cross-collection too, in the next tweet.

To conclude, Mendy is a solid, if unspectacular, shot stopper who does most basics very well.

There are issues - namely near post shots and shots going through his body - but there's no reason to believe why they can't be fixed.
