Self-ID is always positioned like this, as a right for trans people which affects no-one else. It's exactly the same tactics anti-choice activists use, and the people whose rights are being erased are always women. https://twitter.com/UKLabour/status/1309070203377127427
For the anti-choicer, the only thing that is ever mentioned is the unborn baby's 'right to life'. Who but a monster would go around killing innocent babies, right?
The mother's right to bodily autonomy and the control of her own internal organs, to which the baby has no right, is never mentioned. The mother as person is erased. It is easier to write women out of the conversation than to admit that we don't give a fig about their rights.
In the case of self-id, it's positioned as an administrative legal change to make life easier for trans people; who but a bigot would object, right? What's not said is that they are identifying into a category which is already occupied, at the expense of the original occupants.
What's also not said is that the category woman has to be redefined, linguistically, socially and legally, to accommodate trans people, and that that redefinition leaves human females with no word for ourselves, no legal status to which rights can be attached, and thus no rights.
@UKLabour's misogyny is monstrous. What they want is the evisceration of all women's rights except the vote, without even mentioning us, much less consulting us. And our job is to be nice about it, otherwise we get demonised, witchhunted and expelled.
Well, we've said No. And we're going to keep saying No.
