As a former employee of @archstl I'm very disturbed by the recent events that are happening around Peace and Justice and immigration. The complaints against the Immigration Task Force's webinar came from Church Militant, an organization that @splcenter identifies as a hate group https://twitter.com/StLouisReview/status/1308812311075926016
The complaints against the webinar came from those who applaud Attorney General Barr's award at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast and welcome the President's move to end the balance of power between our 3 branches of government by cramming in a Justice before the election.
Additionally, the article states that the "representatives of other faiths" who were invited to speak, "were in opposition to @archstl's position on immigration." Sanctuary churches are the full realization of Gospel Justice, of Jesus's radical welcome!
I wish @archstl had the courage to fully protect the immigrants who reside within the archdiocesan territory and stand up to the racism and xenophobia that resides in the hearts of so many white Catholics.
My prayer is that @archstl and @abp_rozanski recognize that the fight to save our democracy from the fascism fueled by the current administration and supported by those who complained about the webinar is a kairos moment.
A moment when the Peace and Justice Commission and wisdom and courage of its Director are needed more than ever. Amen.
