A THREAD AS TO WHY I BELIEVE THE PRAIRIE VIEW A&M STUDENT LEADERSHIP ELECTION SYSTEM IS FLAWED:
Slept on it, please hear me out, and I say all of this in the most humblest way possible....
First and foremost, I would like to congratulate the most recent winners of both the Pageant, Royal Court, SGA, and all of PVAMU’s current leadership. You all did a fantastic job, and I can’t wait to see what you all have in store for this year!
Second, I would like bring to the forefront on how I strongly feel that Prairie View’s system of electing their leadership is EXTREMELY FLAWED and why this is one of the FIRST things I wanted to change, if elected, so please understand this was going to be said win or lose for me
Several HBCU’s in the SWAC, MEAC, CIAA, etc. elect their leadership either solely based on student vote or PARTIAL pageants. Meaning the students have the ultimate say in whom their leaders are vs a decision based off of one night on what I feel is TALENT and POLITICALLY based.
Although, Prairie View did use to send their Miss PV to compete in the Miss Texas Pageant of the Miss America System in previous years, this effort has not happened for nearly a decade, and yet we still mirror a system that is clearly outdated and ineffective.
Our students should have more of a voice in whom is representing them and not just 10% in the overall scoring, and I believe with that change, the students will be more involved with campus events, student unity, and an overall enhancement in PVAMU’s culture.
On my journey, a plethora of young women has expressed their concerns on how they would LOVE to be Miss Prairie View A&M University one day, but simply don’t give it a chance because they have a strong fear of the rigorous pageant system that the University has set for them.
And at this point, it’s not even the pageant that’s an issue, because it could be overall how the categories are weighted. Talent is worth 30%, when Q&A and student vote are only worth 10%, and should be weighted more.
PV should research other HBCU’s where their pageant determines the top three Winners, and those three have the opportunity to campaign, and the students vote on whom they want. That way tradition and student voice is not loss completely, in either route.
Given that ANY King/Queen will have to be aware and coherent of current events, and will be representing the entire student body
Never to complete a talent portion in your reign at any given point in time again during the academic school year, so why weight it as much? Anyhow.
I LOVE my HBCU, and I have served my time flawlessly on this court and I will continue to serve my University in the best way possible, and because I love my HBCU, I would be wrong to not call out a CLEAR issue, and not try my best to fix it or spread awareness, to say the least.
Even when I am gone, our University deserves the best leadership , and we have to use our voices to change the system and not be bummed out year after year when the individuals that the student body clearly WANT in office, are not when it’s based off of one pageant on one night.
Nonetheless, I have several ways on how I would like to change how Prairie View A&M University elects their leadership, but I’ll wait on you guys feedback before sharing them.

Again, Congratulations to everyone and in the meantime, it’s OPERATION GRADUATION for me hunty! 😘
