lot of ppl have a tendency to exceptionalize all uprisings and crises as tho the fact of “militancy” (ie “spontaneous violence,” & we forget tht difference at our own peril) makes a rebellion “the big one.” so then suddenly u have to be sending ur ppl out 2 be
on the front lines of every single successive night of the demonstrations or riots in order to “advance the struggle” & “heighten the contradictions,” or whatever.
obv having violent demos isn’t a bad thing, far from it but it’ll *always* always b limited 2 just being cathartic violence if there isn’t organization being built up 2 turn it in2 a protracted fight for the seizure of political power.
if we wanna understand how 2 build up a formation capable of taking these uprisings & pushing thru from revolt to revolution, we have 2 start with the actual struggles b/w the masses and the class enemy, & intervene there by building up mass political organization
the (slow & grueling) work of building up mass organizations over the course of mass struggles -> uniting those under revolutionary leadership (the famous “united front [of mass organizations]”), and developing & recruiting the advanced into the party formation.
THEN when the time comes for mass mobilization & the objective conditions shift in the direction of a rev break, u have a whole organizational structure, already hardened by struggle, that can b brought 2 bear & actually affect the course of an uprising.
the problem here is that most organizations openly reject the (leninist) approach to party building in favor of one a few postures, usually boiling down to:
1) “we just gotta have the most correct line & ppl will flock to us” or 2) “1 + work within bourgeois trade unions only bc its what lenin did!” or 3) “2 but with electoral fronts!” or 4) “2 but win hearts and minds thru “serve the people” work!”
u also see the opp problem where ppl are doing the work of advancing mass organization but without the (pre) party being built at the center, so u have all these “autonomous” mass organizations that can (sometimes spectacularly) win their isolated struggles
but can never go from “immediate demands” -> struggle for power bc there is no vanguard political organ capable of providing strategy and leadership.
so circling back 2 the first bit, as shit pops off in Louisville and we see another wave of this, it’s important 2 remember tht this will b co-opted and burn out too. we can’t will a revolution into existence. that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be in the streets or w/e
but the real work comes after, building up the structure so that the next time this shit comes around, we’re ready for it & in fact by doing so enable ourselves to take the offensive & not just sit around “gathering forces” until the pigs murder someone else
