We are witnessing an entire nation become collectively dehumanized.

When we refuse to treat the disproportionate loss of black life with urgency, we dehumanize.

When we react to each other's emotional expressions with cynical accusations of mental weakness, we dehumanize.

When we boil a human issue down to its mechanical "facts," and we idolize clinical intellect above authenticity and emotional truth, we dehumanize.

When we fight high-stakes political battles with coy, winking hypocrisy, declaring a scorched earth strategy, we dehumanize.

When we esteem "calm" over justice, and "peace" over overflowing lament, we dehumanize.

When we treat moral arguments like ones and zeros, arguing and moderating in binaries, claiming that one side is as good or bad as the other, we dehumanize.

And when we dehumanize others, we become dehumanized ourselves.
