1) Nothing has really happened. They lost Kirkuk but that was gonna happen anyway. Referendum is a voting process and nothing more. The main argument people used was that the US was against it and some even believed that Rex Tillerson letter was relevant and Kurd were to trust US https://twitter.com/d_abdulkader/status/1309131915149160451
2) Don’t see the relevance of writing about a referendum which is not a crime, yes KDP miscalculated a couple of things but the didn’t miscalculate the most important thing ( from their own perspective) that Turkey weren’t really against it and that they would be dominant >
3) force in Kurdistan. They control the oil infrastructure, the most important executive roles in the region, they have the most seats in the Iraqi parliament and most of the international diplomats and other important and relevant people still travel to Erbil before Suli.
4) From KDPs perspective they gained more than they lost. It’s is true though that the Kurdish people suffers but that has to do more with overall incompetence@and Kurds ability to backstab each other and trust US and others rather then the referendum itself
5) I honestly wonder there is any other people in the world that loves to slander itself as much as Kurds do. Referendum was 3 years ago but they will talk about it for 4 more decades.
6) Kurdistan’s main problem is:
1, corruption and incompetence
2, oil reliant economy
3, Landlocked
4, Inferiority complex especially towards westerns.
5) To many IR and political students and “experts”
