An interesting development has largely gone unnoticed today. @educationgovuk has issued guidance for Relationship & Sex Education & used this to remind schools of the need to remain balanced when discussing political views, inc. "global affairs, equalities issues... & economics."
Up until now the Department for Education has been loathe to challenge schools who present politically biased views to pupils as facts. This guidance reminds schools that this is illegal.
If your child's school is teaching kids that hard left ideas like "white privilege" or "anti-racism" are facts, not contested ideas - they're breaking the law.
If they are teaching about Black Lives Matter, without presenting credible alternative views - they're breaking the law.
Of course we want pupils to discuss important political issues! It's just that schools have a legal & moral obligation to do so in an impartial fashion.
Schools are there to educate - not evangelise.
There is more the government can & should do to ensure schools follow the law & ensure that all children are given a proper balanced curriculum.

We'll have a full report on this out next week.
If you've seen examples of schools breaking political impartiality we'd love you to share examples with us.

Please don't do so publicly - there's nothing to be gained from shaming them. Please DM or email us in confidence.
