I have found three unquenchable fires in the scriptures:

1. The fire of love
2. The fire of lust
3. The fire of wrath
Concerning the first, this is the love of God. Paul says nothing can separate us from the love of God. And again in Song of Solomon: “many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it.”
Concerning the second, this is the lust of David relentlessly desiring to steal Bathsheba, Amnon being vexed over Tamar, Potiphar’s wife for Joseph, etc.
And concerning the third, this is the wrath of Saul, saying “cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies.” As well as the wrath of God as a physician who is unrelenting in His salvific purging of sin.
The term “unquenchable” therefore is to mean ‘unrelenting.’ That the fire will continue to consume until it achieves the desired outcome.
