How do we stop months of learning loss from #remotelearning from becoming lost years? My proposal that local officials can implement immediately to help our most vulnerable students in @washingtonpost: We need Digital Learning Ambassadors. http://ow.ly/T1ie50BzpyZ  A 🧵
1 in 3 K-12 students didn’t have the digital tools they needed for #remotelearning due to #covid19 this spring. We're not ready to do better this fall. The numbers look even worse for English learners and lower income students (cc. @JRosenworcel for helping sound this alarm) 2/
We have untapped local resources: College students & recent grads, like my @RutgersU students, need meaningful paid work. They speak the languages of immigrant fams in their communities. They understand the tech. They can help our teachers, parents & kids through this yr 3/
I lay out the policy case here: http://ow.ly/T1ie50BzpyZ . We have proven models in @cityyear & @successmentorcorps & many others. We can partner with successful local mentoring programs to train young people quickly and get the ed system working better for families 4/
Digital Learning Ambassadors can get us through the worst of #pandemiclearning. The program can also be part of a sustainable #digtalequity solution for education. Solutions are local & should center the assets young people bring to strengthening their own communities 5/
@GovMurphy and @NYGovCuomo: our diverse states are perfect test cases for Digital Learning Ambassadors. I'm happy to get to work with any city or district that wants to get it started /end
