Alright, so, it's tomorrow, I've been awake an hour or two so I'm coherent enough to write this thread. Let's go. https://twitter.com/shoukamechadork/status/1308935466419400707
Sooooooooooooo. Drakkon New Dawn. I made fun of it when it was revealed because it really looked like Kim was just going to prop up a facist system and just go "Oh I'm a good person so if I rule over these people good then that makes me better."
And it was. It really was.
Firstly; mystery Ranger guy got revealed to be Jason. Ooookay. Thought it was gonna be Billy or god forbid Tommy but you know what, I'll take it.
We're just gonna cut through the bullshit and get to the problematic scene here. So, Jason meets up w/ Kim and they have a clash of idealologies.
Jason wants to (rightfully) dismantle the Ranger Sentries because they're remnants of an oppressive, facist dystopian state that Kim has done nothing but use for her own means.
Jason calls her out and says pretty much what I've been thinking since this story started: she's not really any better than Drakkon.
By the way, earlier in the comic she declared herself Queen of Earth. No, really.
Jason tells her to her face that if she brings back the Pterano Sentries, she's not worthy of that power and that she should just quit. This is a point of contention for........some reason
So, to recap: Kim takes over a dictatorship, says she's going to do it "right" while working with people who helped oppress (Scorpina, Finster), using war machines made out of the *CORPSES OF FALLEN ENEMIES* (Zedd) and then we get this following page.
Jason calls Kim what she is. A facist. She's a fucking facist dictator. It doesn't matter if she's "nice," if she's still on that throne she's still upholding a facist system.
Kim's logic boils down to, "Everything will be good because I am good."
Nevermind she's the one decked out in gold and calling herself the Queen of Earth. Nevermind she's still using the military leftover from the FACIST DICTATORSHIP OOPS
This last page especially is killing me. They're trying so, SO *HARD* to paint Jason as the villain, to make HIM the childish one, when he seems to be the only person who understands what the right thing to do here is.
So, tl;dr
A Power Rangers comic has failed to condemn fascism and painted the man questioning the 'order' as the bad guy.

Good fucking job Boom.
What really gets me, is that if you search this comic RN, you'll find a bunch of people who believe that Kim is in the right. No, really. Go do it, I can wait.
I can tell you, genuinely, that this entire comic was built on an outdated sense of "girl power". That's why Kim and Scorpina radiate such gigantic "girl boss" energy here; in its misguided attempt to be a feminist triumph, it has uplifted fascism. I legitimately am astonished.
Oh, and as for that female Ecliptor, whose name has been revealed to be........ "Eclipta".....she doesn't fucking matter in this, as far as I can tell. She gets her shit kicked in pretty quickly. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, though.
Now, I'd like to note that I haven't paid a single cent for this. God fucking forbid. I'm not giving Boom a single dollar.
But if you DO have a friend who buys this shit, maybe it's time to have a talk.
I don't think my thread is going to destroy Boom's sales and make them cancel the comic, but feel free to use the talking points I've used here to convince people to drop this shit. I would *love* to see a gigantic wave of ppl dropping the comics and letting them die horribly
but at the same time I'm also not holding my breath lmao
Anyways, if you like toy commercials, but you want them to have a little more meat to them and not actually bungle condemning facism, I recommend checking out Gundam.
Zeta Gundam in particular talks about how absolute power corrupts and does a pretty good job dealing with a fascist state.
