Knowing the exact time that something was posted can help you verify content on social media. Each platform has a different way of displaying dates and times. This thread will show you how to investigate a video posted on TikTok.
Step 1 - Open up TikTok on your browser. Remember that to view a TikTok account you have to include the @ before the user’s handle in the URL → http://tiktok.com/@userhandle ">https://tiktok.com/@userhand...
Step 2 - Open up the individual page for the TikTok video that you are investigating https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii0dHWklzFg&ab_channel=FirstDraft">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
Step 3 - Go to “View Page Source” and find the phrase “createtime” in the code https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkHe_U3Rn9I&ab_channel=FirstDraft">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
Step 4 - Convert the UNIX time to Human time GMT using a website like
https://www.epochconverter.com/ ">https://www.epochconverter.com/">...
https://www.epochconverter.com/ ">https://www.epochconverter.com/">...
Step 5 - Think about what that means for the account who posted your video - what is their time zone?
Remember that platforms change their code and interfaces all the time, so this trick might not work forever but there will be an equivalent way of figuring it out. Now you know where to start looking. #OSINT
