Today we say goodbye to Sir Harry Evans - tenacious truthseeker, icon of British journalism and mentor of Bureau founder Elaine Potter - whose investigative legacy will continue to inspire us and generations of journalists to come

“There is no such thing as fake news - it’s lies” At our debate on investigative journalism in a post-truth world in 2017, Harry was frank about the need to stop pandering to those with an agenda of spreading misinformation and sowing distrust

Harry’s support for the Bureau was immense, in particular our efforts to expose the failure of police to investigate domestic violence in their own ranks and scrutinise council borrowing and spending

He backed our attempts to get the Russia Report released and when Cabinet Office said we were being “vexatious” by demanding information he compared it to the cover up of the Kim Philby spying affair in the 1960s
