So let's just take stock of what's happened.

The government undertakes a consultation on changing the GRA, which if passed, would effectively change the meaning of sex in law to gender identity and impact the rights given to women as a sex class.

Women are not consulted,
and no consideration of the impact this will have on them and their protected characteristic in law is undertaken.

On coming to understand the implications of this change, women start to organise to express their political concerns. They are ranged against the government,
large political lobby groups in receipt of large amounts of government funds, senior academics in receipt of large amounts of government funds, almost the whole of the left-wing media, and, as this made evident, corporate and financial power, and the forces of state violence.
Arrangements of these forces, supported by a generation of disaffected and alienated young people, who were fed the tenets of a metaphysical cult online, mostly on Tumblr, proceed to try and and shut these women up.

They are no platformed, their meetings are often violently
picketed, women are physically attacked, there are constant threats to their livelihood, and they are subjected to violent often sexualised threats, all while much of the media, and especially the left-wing media, sticks its fingers in its ears, or continues to propagate a
narrative about why these women are evil bigot witches who must shut up immediately.

The women are undeterred, and indeed, the level of hostility makes them suspect they are right to think that something very sketchy is happening here.

They carry on organising. They hold
political meetings, they make speeches, they write essays, they collate lots of data, they organise protests.

They persist in maintaining and trying to model democratic political engagement while people are telling them to die in a fire and screaming scum in their face.
They do all of this without any funding, many of them work for free, they use crowdfunding to raise money when they need it.

Over time, because there are a lot of them, and they are pulling very hard, and they have good clear arguments, and lots of data, and because their
analysis of the legal conflicts makes sense, and because as they gain more traction the type of bullying and threats being used to try and shut them down starts to become more visible, more and more people start noticing there is actually a problem here.

Lots of more or less
completely batshit and scary things happen along the way, most of which no one would believe if I wrote them all down in a list.

Eventually, after two years of dragging their feet, a now new administration finally announces that it is going to scrap the reform of the law that
kicked off the whole mess.

No institutional government funded women's groups welcome the news, indeed, some of them think that women's protected characteristic in law remaining unchanged is a very bad thing.

No other civil rights organisations or lobby groups welcome the news.
No other political parties welcome the news.

Many of them put out statements denouncing it. The group that is in fact responsible for implementing the law by which women are protected as a sex class denounce it.

The internal parliamentary lobby group
pushing the agenda against women denounce it, while also making statements about being disappointed that their privately agreed strategy has not been implemented.

They mention their strong lobbying presence and their support from commerce, despite the https://twitter.com/janeclarejones/status/1308907972714729478?s=20
fact that every time the women mention that powerful political and corporate forces are pushing an agenda against them, they are told they are hysterical conspiratorial fantasists.

Then, the High Priestess of the metaphysical belief system which is trying to erase them in law
is dispatched to add to the dismissal of the women. While allegedly concerned about women's political interests, allegedly supportive of grass roots political movements against power, and allegedly interested in political violence, she obdurately refuses to recognise the
force women have been subjected to, its political purpose, and her own present implication in it, while also exhibiting a remorseless lack of identification with women's concerns about male violence. Indeed, she too thinks the women are hysterical fantasists.
The corporation in charge of the public square co-ordinates and curates the response to this declaration, in order to produce the appearance of universal praise and supplication to the Hight Priestess' judgement.
'Trans women are women
Trans men are men
Non-binary is valid.

Amen'

Intone the media, the lobby groups, the corporations, the academy, the tech companies, the other political parties.

And the women will not bow.
