Hello everyone! This is the thread where I will be asking the governor to sign #SB288, which would allow for the streamlining of approvals on some transit and public safety projects by exempting them from CEQA. What’s CEQA you ask?
The California Environmental Quality Act was passed and signed into law by Gov Reagan. Nowadays, it functions basically to allow NIMBYs to gum up any environmental project, incl. transit projects, by allowing for private lawsuits. These wouldn’t be allowed under #SB288
As an example, Atherton (famously inclusive and accessible) sued under CEQA to block Caltrain electrification, has held up electrification for the past five years. Because they didn’t like the way some poles look.
#SB288 would basically provide a CEQA exemption for transit and bike lane projects. @GavinNewsom @CAgovernor might not sign it. So we’re using Prop 15 tactics so the governor will pass it.
He’s extremely online, and so are we. Let’s get going. No more empty tweets, @GavinNewsom. Sing some actual transit and environmental policy.
Banning non-zero emission car sales in CA in 2035 is
1. Too late
2. Useless when we have this thing called interstate commerce
