1/ Among its many ambitious commitments to "build back better", today's federal speech from the throne offered a number of commitments to those especially vulnerable to the Covid-19 pandemic - our seniors. https://www.canada.ca/en/privy-council/campaigns/speech-throne/2020/speech-from-the-throne.html
2/ Echoing the recommendations from leading researchers, govt to:
institute natl standards of care (hopefully including minimum staffing ratios & direct care hours);
extend the wage top-up for HCA/PSWs to mid-2021;
$$$ "to keep people in their homes longer".

3/ This plan is in stark contrast @YourAlberta , who have
perpetuated conflicts that leave the wage-top up in limbo; https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/federal-top-up-pay-for-alberta-essential-workers-remains-in-limbo-1.5708499

4/
ignored expert consensus that public, unionized facilities offer better quality of care & better outcomes to Covid-19 outbreaks - fewer cases & fewer fatalities among staff & residents; https://www.cmaj.ca/content/192/33/E946

5/
and moved elder care even further to a corporate, marketized delivery model. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/alberta-new-continuing-care-spaces-1.5708746

6/ If these promises from Ottawa are to hinge on co-operation with provinces & territories, Albertans will have to hold both govts' feet to the fire to ensure our "building back better" doesn't get the UCP treatment - private profit over public interest.
