Today, I was heading home a route I travel frequently, and I came across a rather beat up saturn sedan, driving somewhat eradicately on the road. I live rural. It's harvest. Millions of dollars of equipment in fields. My house was broken into last winter. I am EXTRA aware.
So, I called the RCMP. Non-emergency line. Local detachment. I was able to give a clear description of the vehicle, and the occupant, and why I was concerned about what was happening. Beat up black car. Loaded up back seat. Kind of looks like the occupant is scouting things out.
I continued along my route, got my mail @ my rural box, went back on that road, which is definitely the longer way home. I wanted to see if the the RCMP had attended (this is 4 mins from town), or if I could get a plate. The black car had moved on, heading to town, ahead of me
Unfortunately, it was too far to get a plate, but the RCMP did call me as I got to the next intersection. The member was confident he knew who it was, based on my very specific information (yay small town?), and would go talk to him. Keep in mind, this is all in like 15 minutes.
The member talked to the person who owned the black car, & called me back. This person had been collecting bottles, because they have been living out of the car. And my heart broke. How many of us are blessed, but could lose it all? "There but for the grace if God, go I"
I mean, the reality is I am definitely not a church goer. Weddings and funerals. Maybe a baptism. Maybe. But we, as a province, have seen some tough years. And this isn't about politics or bullshit. This is about how far detached we are from those in need.
So I loaded up the contractor bag of bottles from my shed, and found the guy.
Now this thread isn't about doing something and putting it on social media for credit. This is about asking my tweeps to do these things, to look after those in our community.
We need to look after those in our community, as a community. Like the old days. Make a meal for someone who needs it. Give what we can. Obviously a guy like this falls thru the cracks. And there are many. I'd rather give this guys some bottles that have been sitting, buy a meal
Imagine the change we could affect in that person's life?

Anyways, I hope that you buy a guy a sandwich who needs, and not worry about the guy in the drive thru behind you, because obviously they can buy a meal.
