Dad served over 2 decades as regional director in DICT, then DOTC. To send his children to good schools, he never bought brand new cars and put off buy a house.

So I don't get how someone w/ a lower salary grade with lower steps has brand new fucking BMWs. Asan sakripisyo niyo? https://twitter.com/ToniSpeakEasy/status/1308398014801813507
Even when mum eventually became an RD too, my parents struggled to make ends mean every now and then. Cars broke down. Loans needed paying off. My 3 siblings and I needed medical attention from time to time. My parents get sick too. Holidays were spent apart for work.
I'm not saying we were poor. But the salary of my parents (about 38k each after tax, pagibig, philhealth, gsis) wasn't enough to afford us 4 kids such luxuries like cars & trips even just outside Luzon. Much was sacrificed for us to go to good schools and for our necessities.
So to hear of other government officials live like kings and queens when they have salaries twice their actual pay is disgusting and blood-boiling. You people are supposed to be public servants.
*step is what they refer to as the money added to the salary of a person. My dad had a lot of "steps" because of how many years he had served in the government.
