Hi. I grew up in SD, and it& #39;s where I& #39;m raising my daughter. Quick thread. https://twitter.com/govkristinoem/status/1308867528224059398">https://twitter.com/govkristi...
I work for one of our region& #39;s largest health systems. I& #39;ve spent the last almost 7 months supporting caregivers navigate this pandemic. Much of my work day is spent working on COVID-related projects. I have an acute knowledge of how this disease is impacting our community.
In addition to working full time, I& #39;m also currently shepherding my 8 yo daughter through SD& #39;s Virtual Academy. It& #39;s badly designed and poorly supported. None of the other parents in this program are happy with it.
However, this is our only option. My daughter has a genetic lung/liver disease, and is a high risk kid. When @govkristinoem announced that SD schools would open and masks would not be required, I heard comments like, "If you don& #39;t like it, keep your kid home."
I pay property taxes to send her to a public school. My expectation is that her school is a safe place. But fine. We kept her home. We didn& #39;t have a choice.
@govkristinoem crowing about all the "freedom" in SD doesn& #39;t ring true for those of us who are desperately avoiding this virus. I *don& #39;t* have the freedom to safely enjoy my community when leaders are spreading lies about a pandemic that& #39;s killed 200k Americans.
This video is reckless and callous. COVID isn& #39;t a joke for families who have lost someone to the disease. COVID isn& #39;t a joke to health care workers showing up day after day to care for a high volume of patients.
And COVID is esp not a joke to me. I& #39;m pregnant, I& #39;m tired, & I miss normal life. It& #39;s even more outrageous that @govkristinoem spends her time stumping for Trump instead of working like the rest of us to stop the virus from spreading. Live in the reality you made for your state.
