The reason they so adamantly tell us to vote is because they don’t have a plan. Fatalistic are they are about the end of democracy as they know it, they don’t have any strategies beyond electoralism even in the face of the president literally flirting with not leaving office. https://twitter.com/djrothkopf/status/1308925088125923328
So they continue to tell us to vote, they shame people for not sharing their enthusiasm for voting + preemptively blame non-voters for losing the election; they consistently undercut ambitious dreams & proposals for alternate futures because they simply lack the imagination.
Joe Biden told people not to “sully” Breonna Taylor’s memory by holding non-peaceful protests, yet he’s promised to give more funding to the very same forces who murdered her in her sleep.
You would hope the president explicitly saying “hmm maybe I won’t leave office, we’ll see” would initiate the crisis of consciousness they’ve apparently been trying to bring about by crying about the end of the world as we now it. But no. They have nothing.
He’s been flirting with the pipe dream of multi-term rule for years, yet even as he steadily dismantles institutions they refuse to take him at his word and louder they cry for us to vote because despite his incrementally successful efforts “it can’t and won’t happen here.”
Vote if you’re so inclined, vote because it informs the conditions in which people organize, whatever. But the dogmatic faith in electoralism, in a duopoly intended to suffocate us in disaster capitalism + neoliberal violence no matter the party, is what is killing us.
If voting is all you have or could ever conceive of having, you’ve long lost whatever war you think we’re fighting.
