Where does fat go when you burn it off by taking in fewer calories than your body requires? Does it literally get “burned”? No, not exactly… Time for a THREAD https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👇" title="Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten" aria-label="Emoji: Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👇" title="Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten" aria-label="Emoji: Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👇" title="Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten" aria-label="Emoji: Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten">
Fat cells develop during childhood and puberty. When you gain weight as an adult, you don’t make more fat cells; rather, your existing fat cells expand as the digestive system breaks down & stores energy for later use
Your fat cells shrink when your body uses fat, but the fat used by your body doesn’t get directly turned into energy, turn into muscle, or exit with solid waste
Rather, when you take in fewer calories than your body needs, the stored fat in your adipose cells is sent back out into your body as triglycerides, which goes through a series of chemical reactions to convert into energy
The process of turning triglycerides into energy isn’t 100% efficient. It has two byproducts: water and carbon dioxide. The water leaves your body through sweat, and the carbon dioxide is breathed out by your lungs as they process oxygen
After 30 minutes of aerobic exercise, or 60 minutes of moderate exercise, your body starts burning mainly fat. So the next time you’re sweating and breathing hard in the gym, you can visualize the fat actually leaving your body!
