tom liked one of the many transphobic tweets from j.k. rowling, which was posted on june 6th, 2020. he quickly unliked the tweet when people started calling him out for transphobia.

many people argue to say it was mostly a mistake. this is unlikely because tom rarely ever likes tweets, as he had only liked 66 at the time despite having been on twitter for over ten years.

obviously, tom only likes tweets of significance. also, he only liked because he was receiving backlash.
BUT WHAT IF IT REALLY WAS AN ACCIDENT?
on the off chance that it was an accident, he still hasn’t spoken up about it. with a platform as huge as his, it is extremely harmful to the trans community for him to be liking those tweets.

by liking them (and especially not speaking up about it), a message has been sent to many fans that he supports and condones the message j.k. rowling was tweeting.
for example, on many occasions, fans of his had been transphobic in order to defend him. this has happened to me and many people i know on twitter.
THE WORST PART:
the fact that he hasn’t spoken up about it. even if it was an accident (which can’t be proven due to his silence), he still should have made a statement immediately after realizing he had liked the tweet.

this is why it is so hard to believe that it even was an accident, as so many people are trying to say.
take this into consideration: if you harmed a community, person, etc., that you truly loved and supported, even by accident, you would do everything in your power to make it right.
all tom has done is disregarded the thousands of people telling him just how harmful his actions were.
WHAT IF HE’S SCARED TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE PERSON WHO MADE HIS CAREER?
too bad. he crossed the line and needs to hold himself accountable. nobody has to apologize on behalf of j.k. rowling except herself; he just has to be responsible for what he himself has done.
