I spent $1,009.00 in one month on newsletter ads for @BetterSheets.
Was it worth it?
Yes

Why?
I supported 11 Newsletters.
That's an average of $91.72 per ad.
Most expensive: $300
Least expensive: $10
Results:
I got some traffic and sales.
You: oooh... sales? Tell me more.
Me: I'll tell you more below.

How much traffic and sales?
Of course it's hard to tell. Here's some info.
Since I started newsletter ads a month ago, I've sold $3,500 memberships to BetterSheets.
While there's no exact "typical month" $3,100 is average.
But wait there's more...

I kept track of when the newsletter sent the ad. And I got sales data per day for the past month.
Looking at the "average sales" in the past week against any day, to see if there's any peaks, I saw a few days of small sales spikes correlated with a few newsletters.

Added up the overage.
31 sales are above the 7 day trailing average. That translates into $589 in sales.
That's only the sales above average. I probably would have had a downward trend if I hadn't done the ad. So there's probably another 50% of sales those days attributable.

Another way I can figure this out is that I usually get 2-3 sales per day. but during this time I averaged 5.6. So 72 sales might be correlated to the newsletter ads. Which is $1,482 in revenue.
Also
I can directly correlate at least one $69 newsletter ad spend to a $99 sale.
Oh and the best part, 2 of the newsletters haven't sent their editions yet with my ad.
So while I have paid $1k, I only have ran 81% of the ads.

And In the same time period I tried to spend $1k on podcast ads.
So far I've spent $300 on podcast ads without a single one running.
And I've had calls with podcast marketplaces and agencies that went nowhere. Waste of time.

Caveat: I'm biased towards newsletters ads.
But for fuck's sake, can't podcast ads be easier?
I just emailed a bunch of newsletters I like, people I'm confident can write, because I saw them write, in my inbox.
and the deal is done.
more rant.......

While it wasn't "easy" to run newsletter ads. It was a joy.
It is gosh darn almost impossible to spend $1k on podcast ads. I tried. I'm still trying.
You'll mention a few marketplaces here like "what about podcorn?" sure I signed up for it. UGH.
