(not a chrockers but) In defense of Chrollo Lucilfer, a thread-

I see "chrollo is boring" a lot on my TL, and it's true, but I think togashi's portrayal of a central villain is sort of overlooked with this statement. A lot of the points I make are derived from Aleczander's "who is chrollo lucilfer" video, which I highly recommend.

yes, chrollo doesn't have a personality, but it's part of his character. It's even reflected in his nen ability, how he fails to come up with one of his own, so he relies on stealing others'. One's hatsu is something very unique to them, and is curated largely from one's --

-- experience. Chrollo is just someone who feels very lost, unsure of who he is, since everything he's ever had was taken from others. It's unsual to see a fictional character portrayed with an identiy crisis, and it can be relatable to some people.

I hear "chrollo's backstory sucks" a lot too. Unpopular opinion, but copy-and-paste tragic origin story villains can get quite boring. Chrollo came from a city of nobodies, did not face any sort of unique hardship, yet is one of the most wanted crimminals in the hxh universe --

simply because he wanted to feel some sort of purpose. Compared to the other characters in HxH, who are very sure of their goals (like kurapika being driven by revenge, gon wanting to find ging, and leorio wanting to be a doctor, hisoka wanting to fight everyone etc.), --

--Chrollo appears as an outlier. He wreaks havoc because it's the only thing that gives his life meaning. This selfish desire that results in such carnage, he has absolutely no self-righteous agenda or dark past driving it. He knows what he does is bad, and he revels in it.

I would argue that Chrollo's lack of individuality is what makes him special. I agree that Chrollo is boring, but there's more to it than just that. Also chrollo fat coque
