These two are our new obsession. A little thread on two very cute parrots in the CBD.

About ten days ago we had our very first ever visit to our laneways from a rainbow lorikeet. Our apartment address is on Collins St near Elizabeth, but we& #39;re right at the back and look down over Bligh Place.

We& #39;ve been lucky this winter to have the company of some Long-billed Corellas as they search out nesting spots. They have pretty much given up now.

The rainbows are much smaller than corellas, and are looking for more modest digs for their nest. This pair keep coming back to a couple of holes where sparrows have been nesting.
Amazingly this parrot does get right into the hole, but there& #39;s no hollow out once inside.

They& #39;re very thorough as they inspect options. Any crack or gap in the building work is being investigated. They even do vertical sweeps up and down the brickwork to look for nesting opportunities.

It& #39;s been nice having them around. Rainbow Lorikeets make a hell of a racket when gathered in groups. As a lone pair however they are very sweet and add a cheerful note to the laneways.

They have even checked out a few balconies in the shady parts of Bligh Place. Our building is sunny in the morning but shaded in the afternoon.
Interesting that they seem to like being lower down, away from the sun. The corellas liked being higher up.

We also have three spotted doves who come visit us several times a day in search of snacks. When it starts raining they come and hang out on our balcony. They feel safe here.

It& #39;s been great this past week and a bit having the rainbows visit several times a day and brighten up the block. Have already heard them about this morning.
