Something I notice when SWERFs talk about the violence of the sex industry and who’s experienced enough of it to matter is that they never discuss that we’re usually choosing this violence or risk of violence over other forms of of violence, like poverty.
I chose the violence of survival sex work over other forms of violence I decided would be worse for me: domestic violence or homelessness.
I continue to choose the risk of violence that comes with other forms of sex work over what I decided were forms of violence that would be worse for me: insurmountable debt or working 7hr/day deleting extra spaces from transcriptions and not making enough to furnish my apartment
If you only talk about the violence in the sex trades and ending demand for it, you’re missing the bigger picture, which is that without the sex industry we’d still be stuck in violent situations, just with fewer choices between them.
Choosing between forms of violence is appalling. What are you doing to give people better options? Because it’s certainly not throwing more funds at the police and diversion courts
